These days I am dealing with my thesis….
I need to read many papers. For some journal, who suppose to pay I can access it through J&J network since the already subscribed for those journals. Even I can download a whole book. It can also be done in my university library; we can access and download any journals that we need. After reading I always have some questions and I just mail the authors (professors) asking them what I don’t understand in their paper…the one that amazed me is that if they are not vacation, they will reply you immediately and explain it well. Some authors gave me another paper to read even they send it to home, since they don’t have softcopy of it. Because they reply very fast so if I have other questions I just reply them within seconds…then it just like you are discussing to professor that even you don’t know him/her or where they are.
Yesterday I could not access some papers, since we have to pay for it and I ask the secretary in my department….then this morning she gave me all papers that I need… I was amazed…faster that I though… This is truly research center. All needed papers, stuff for researches are provided …I don’t know whether there is something like this in Indonesia
I am thinking how about in Indonesia. Internet still something expensive, not everybody can access it and even conneted but once a week checking their email.
I remember how difficult students in Indonesia to meet and discuss with their supervisor or professors, since they are busy with projects outside university …yah its due to the minimum salary they got definitely… Access to journal still limited in Indonesia, since it “costly”. No connection between universities library..
In Belgium, you can borrow the book from other university and you will have it within few days..
I hope that education in Indonesia not only become business and be better for indonesia future
